About CommonCal

Plan dates that work for more people.

CommonCal was created to make that easier.

Growing up, my mom would meet with our school each year to talk through which dates didn't work. I later learned other parents were doing the same in their own school communities. Schools wanted to be thoughtful, but without an easy way to cross-check calendars, important events would still land on observances.

Years later, when my son started school, I saw the same pattern play out again. He missed class picture day because it was scheduled on an observance. I shared it with the school, but a few years later, it happened again. That same year, a parent event was scheduled on a different observance, and I heard similar conflicts happening in other classes as well.

It wasn't a lack of care. Planning a calendar means balancing countless dates, and checking across religious and cultural observances isn't simple to do manually.

CommonCal was built to make that process easier. It brings observances into one place and helps planners understand potential conflicts before dates are set, so more people can be included from the start.
